DVDs help get them moving

AthleticBaby has a variety of DVDs out to introduce your kids to fitness from the earliest ages. Creator Karen Foster says in the introduction that she hopes to ''inspire kids to become physically active'' with the series.

In this one, kids are introduced to soccer. Foster suggests you watch the video with your little one and surround him or her with balls and age-appropriate sports-related toys. The 30-minute video is divided into sections by adorable, original songs.

The graphics are colorful and exciting and change with each song, almost like music videos for the toddler set. For instance, in Go, Let's Go, kids are shown running, twirling and touching their toes. The kids range in age from about 18 months to maybe 5 years.

In another song, No Hands Please, kids are introduced to soccer balls and some of the very basic rules of the game and rules of sportsmanship for playing sports in general.

The screen changes enough, via graphics and video, that even the youngest kids will be interested. But one segment, showing teenage girls playing soccer in blurred images, lasts too long for even older kids to stay interested.

If you want to introduce your kids to sports at a young age, this is a good video to start.

But remember, as even the series' creator says, nothing beats getting out there and actually playing with your kids.
