Chapelco, part of the Andean Cordillera, is located only 19 kilometres away from San Martin de los Andes. From its platforms visitors can see Lake Lacar and Lanin Volcano. Luckily, the Andean Woods have not been deforested, offering a very special panoramic view when descending from any of the tracks full of ancient woods and trees decorated with lichens (Devil's Beards).

The Base is 1,250 metres above sea level (a.s.l.) and its top at more than 2,000 metres a.s.l.. This extraordinary location provides a continuous existence of snow during the winter season. The Base is one of the best resorts in the world. Chapelco offers excellent Patagonian cuisine, drugstores, boutiques, renting and maintenance of equipment, cash dispensers and cell phones services.

Intermediate is the starting point of the most important lift: the Telecabina, which is located halfway to the top. At 1,600m visitors get to the ski and snowboard world nucleus. There they will find a shopping centre, with a capacity of 400 and 300 more in its terraces and that has, among many other things, a first class gastronomic service.

Chapelco has 12 very modern lifts that can transport 12,000 skiers per hour, allowing a complete and integral use of the mountain. The telecabina, which is the only one in South America, can transport up to 6 skiers at the same time and allows visitors to have a comfortable access to a platform of 1,600 metres, Chapelco's second base of operation. Chapelco has a variety of lifts to carry the skiers up the hill: double, triple and quadruple chairlifts, T-bars, and teleskis. The resort has a special pass for university students. The daily pass starts at 9 am and the afternoon pass at 3pm. Passes are issued for 3, 4 and 5 days, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, flexible and for the whole season.

Since 1995 a modern and computerised system of issuing and reading passes, called Snowpass, has been working to give a quick and safe access to every lift and avoid queuing. The system also tells, in real time, how many people are skiing and what lifters are being used.

Chapelco offers 22 tracks, with 45 slopes (max.) and 20 slopes (min), categorised green, blue, red and black. The estimated surface is of 140 h and the total unevenness (not accumulated) is of 720 metres. It is possible to go from the top of the quadruple chairlift of the Mallin to the base; the maximum length is 5,3 km.

The annual snowfall amount in the base is 1,50 metres and 2,50 metres in the top, while snow depth average is 0,50 m in the base, 1 metre in the intermediate part and 1,30 metres in the top.

The resort has tracks for beginners, such as tracks 63 and the Base, and black tracks, bumps and jumps for experts. The Snowboard Park, located at the topmost parts of the mountain and its canyon, allows the practice of half-pipe, parallel slalom, fun park and big air snowboarding. It is located in the center of Chapelco, from where it is possible to see Lanin Volcano. It has its own lifts, the Lift del Palito; visitors have to take the chairlifts Graeff and Poma del Filo to get to it. For snowboarders and skiers the area has all kinds of technically designed flaws and defects.

Chapelco offers a ski and snowboard school and a nursery. Group and individual lessons for adults and children are available as well as first and advanced lessons and personalised lessons for handicapped people. The resort also has its own security service, medical assistance, gastronomic service, cloakroom and free parking.
You can also find patisseries, restaurants and good music. Some of them are: the Antulauquen, a self-service restaurant, 1,600m (a.s.l.); Rancho de Manolo where La Brava and the 3 meet, 1,420m (a.s.l.); The Refugio Graeff, 1,720m (a.s.l.), just a few metres away from the old refuge; the Pradera del Puma, overlooking the volcanoes and the cordillera; the Restaurante de la Base, a self-service restaurant with capacity for 240 people; the Casita del Bosque, next to the Triple chairlift, in the middle of the woods.
